The Best Maryland Crabs in Baltimore

If you grew up in Maryland, chances are feasting on Maryland crabs with your family in the summer was a milestone of your childhood. Dirty finger nails, tired hands and a full belly, were all signs of a successful crab meal. Now that you’re grown-up, the dish brings forth warm nostalgia, and along with it, preemptive anxiety over the serious clean up process. We totally feel you on that and we’re here to help you attain that same delicious seafood experience without any of the accountability. Keep reading for our top 2 favorite spots for fresh Maryland crab in the Baltimore area.

Captain James Seafood Palace

Captain James knew what he was doing when he shipwrecked his merchant vessel-shaped restaurant on the corner of Aliceanna and Boston Street in Canton more than 30 years ago. With waterfront views, and a laundry list of fresh crab dishes and other seafood options, Captain James Seafood Palace is the place to be for the full Maryland crab experience.

We started with an order of the seafood nachos, which include a healthy serving of shrimp and scallops, dollops of their famous crab dip, pico de gallo and sour cream. They were as mouth watering as they look and served as great foreshadowing for the crabs that would follow.

Next came the main event. The crabs were snowy-white, meaty and steaming hot. Worth every slightly overpriced penny.

Bo Brooks

Nestled in Canton’s Lighthouse Point, Bo Brooks has served fresh Maryland crabs to Baltimore for the last 50 years. If you’re looking for equal deliciousness to Captain James Seafood Palace, at a more conservative price point, Bo Brooks is your place.

Our order at Bo Brooks was absolutely a game time decision. Their menu is extensive and almost everything sounds mouthwatering. We were with a large group and decided the best way to go about this situation was family style. We went with the Crab Dip Quesadilla, Lobster Mac and Cheese, the Steak and Cake, Sesame Encrusted Salmon and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and Fish and Chips in addition to our order of crabs. There was not a single crumb left on any of our plates, or one big meaty crab left untouched.

We hope our suggestions help you choose a place for your next crab outing. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
